What a great day. The sun was shining as was the water and there was hardly a breath of wind, and it was stinking hot. Oh I love summer.
The green flag came up and we were off. This was the first time we'd had a chance to see how the new engines were going to compare. We rounded the first buoy with a 16 second lead over second place in our class. We were very happy boys. The trick was to see if we could keep it from there.
In the first full lap we gained another 20 seconds and we managed to keep doing that for the remainder of the race, coming home with over a 2 minute lead.
Sam drove like a machine never putting a foot wrong and getting around the buoys like we were on rails. The balance of the boat seems better than last year and Sam and I feel a lot more comfortable in the boat. All these things contributed to a fantastic first race win and our first ever win in any class in an Offshore event.
Bring on Gulf Harbour on the 14th of February.
